3 Strategies To Improving Your Golf Game

Why should you work on improving your golf game? For one, the next time that you head out onto the green with your boss you won’t feel like a complete fool when he starts talking about his skills. And, you’ll be able to brag to your buddies about how you came out under par. It can also help you to enjoy the game more so. Maybe you just need a little more practice (time to get away Saturday morning from the wife and kids) or maybe you just need someone to show you a few techniques to help you get the most out of your game. Either way, improving your golf game can happen in just these steps.

* One of the most prolific mistakes that people make in their golf game is their stance. Because of how important the way that you stand is, you’ll need to make sure that you have it down perfectly. If this sounds hard, it doesn’t have to be.

* After improving your stance, you need to take the time to improve your swing and your follow through. When working to improve your golf game, the follow through of your swing will ultimately provide you with an accurate shot.

* Another mistake the individuals make yet need to realize when working to improve their golf game is their use of clubs. Which is the right one to use when you tee off? Which should you use to get out of the sand dune? While you may think you know the answer, you probably don’t.

Okay, so these are the things that you should work on to improve your golf game, but how do you actually do it? What should you look for? While you can definitely learn from the web, it often makes more sense to see the difference in what you are doing and what you should be doing, not just reading it. For that, you should consider one of several options.

* First, you can enroll in a few golf courses at your local golf club. This is the best option because it allows hands on, personal training. It is also the most expensive.

* Second, you could also take some courses through your local community center. A good choice and it is less expensive.

* You can also work on your golf game by using videos designed to help you each step of the way. The videos can be purchased throughout the web and allow you to actually see the right way to stand and swing your club.

Improving your golf game just got a whole lot easier!

Simple Tips For Improving Golf Swing

There are loads of resources both on-line and off that you can turn to for easy tips on improving golf swing.  More than likely, you are looking for simple pointers on improving golf swing that you can start with yourself, because you are not in a position to hire a professional to help you improve your swing.

These are tips on improving golf swing that you can use every single time you are out, whether you are playing nine, eighteen or are just brushing up on the driving range.

The first tip for improving golf swing is to LOOK. When you are golfing with friends or colleagues, make a note of the most successful golfer and observe carefully when he or she swings. Watch for body position, stance, how high they lift the club and the motion used when they swing the club. Then think about your own swing. What are they doing that you are not doing? If you can figure this out for yourself, there is no shame in asking your talented golfer friends to watch you and offer their advice for improving golf swing.

It may also be beneficial to practice your own swing in a mirror or to videotape yourself so you can actually see the differences between what you think you are doing and what you are actually doing. Forming bad habits early will lead to bad habits for the long term, unless you deliberately work to change them.

Purchasing a video tape on improving golf swing may also help your game, because it will allow you to observe the techniques and positions used by the best in the game, and it will teach you exactly how to replicate them yourself. Watching golf on TV can also help in this manner as well.

Above all, improving golf swing takes practice and lots of it. Once you have mastered the appropriate techniques and pointers on how to improve your swing, you need to put those techniques to work. Practice until you have unlearned your bad habits and learned the right way to swing. Practice as often as you can until your best swing has become second nature. You can never practice too much!

Stack and Tilt Golf Swing – Video

I recently posted an article about the stack and tilt golf swing . To better illustrate this method of swinging the club I came across the video below. Its quite short, but gives a good idea of the thinking behind the swing.

The Golf Shank

The golf shank is probably the worst bad shot that a golfer can hit. There are plenty of different types of bad shots that can damage a score – a bad slice, an extreme hook, hitting the ground before the ball – the list goes on. The shank tops all of these, in my opinion. The shank occurs when the ball connects with the part of the club face where it meets the shaft – the hosel. This means that the ball will squirt off in an extreme right direction (for a right handed player). Because of the extreme nature of this type of shot, most of the time it will result in a lost ball. This means it is imperative for the golfer to eradicate the shank from his/her swing.

One of the main causes of the golf shank is that the club face is too open at the point of impact, and frequently this causes the point of impact to be the hosel. This can be due to a number of reasons, such as a weak grip (hands twisted too far to the left), bad posture, swing alignment, and even the position of the ball in the stance.

To fix a shank, try changing your grip so that it is more ‘strong’. This is when the left hand is more dominant than the right (for RH golfer), and encourages the clubface to be more square than open at the point of impact with the ball. To do this, grip the club as you normally would. Twist your grip in a clockwise way so that you can see three knuckles on your left hand. If the cause of your shank is a weak grip, this technique will help fix it.

Bad posture can cause a shank as this result in the golfer leaning too much on the heels or the toes. Because the golfer is then not properly balanced, during the course of the swing the weight can shift from toes to heels or vice versa. This can have the effect of compromising the swing plane in such a way that the hosel of the club makes contact with the ball at the point of impact, causing the shank. To fix this, focus on distributing your weight evenly across the centre of your feet as you address the ball. Good balance will mean the risk of the swing plane changing during the course of the swing is reduced.

The alignment of the body can also contribute to a shank. If the body is aiming too far left, this can result in the club head being open at impact, which can mean the ball strikes the hosel occasionally. Check your alignment by getting a friend to hold a golf club across your chest as you line up the shot. This will inform you as to the direction your body is aiming in, and it may be a more open stance than you think.

A shank is one of the most discouraging shots in golf, so hopefully the above tips can help you fix your own golf shank.

Golf Swing Tips

The key to becoming a good amateur golfer is to develop a swing that you can repeat under stressful circumstances. Those moments of stress are relative to the individual golfer; teeing off at the first in front of an audience, teeing off at the last needing a par to break the handicap, or even just being able to follow one good shot with another. The following article offers several golf swing tips that an amateur golfer could implement to become a more successful player.

The first thing you need to get right is the grip. There are two main grips that golfers use (other than putting grips) – the overlapping grip and the interlocking grip. Everyone has their own preference, and the golfer should go with what feels the most comfortable and secure. The main thing to get right with the way you grip the club is the ‘strength’ of the hand position. Too ‘strong’ and a hook will often be the result, as the clubface will become closed at impact. Too ‘weak’, and the clubface will more often than not be open at the point of impact, resulting in a slice. The ideal grip should be slightly ‘strong’, and this achieved by resting the club grip between the two outstretched hands, so that the hands are at right angles to the target line. Close the hands around the grip, and rotate clockwise about half an inch. This will give you a grip that is neutral but verging on the ‘strong’.

One of the most important golf swing tips concerns rhythm. Timing is everything in the golf swing, and under pressure, we tend to swing faster. This can result in any number of different types of bad shots. To eliminate this, we can enforce a rhythm so that to the best of our ability, we are always swinging at the same speed. One way to do this is to count – one – two on the backswing, then three on the downswing. In addition to regulating the speed of the swing, this drill can focus the mind on something other than the circumstances surrounding the shot. This all helps the golfer make a good swing under pressure.

When under pressure, the amateur golfer sometimes feels the need to see where the ball has gone as soon as possible. This results in the head coming up too soon, and the ball being hit thin. It is an important fundamental of the golf swing that the head should be kept down, and in addition to enforcing a good swing rhythm, the golfer should also focus on keeping the head down until the ball is well away.

When watching the PGA Tour on television, the variety of the professionals’ swings is always amazing. These guys are the top players in the world, and for something as simple as hitting a small ball, you would thing they would all swing much the same way. In at least one aspect of their swings this is actually quite true – watch the slow motion replays of the professionals hitting balls and the one thing their swings always have in common is that the left arm (for right-handed players) remains straight. This is important, because if the left arm remains straight through the entire swing, then the chances are that the club face will return to the same point it was at the address. This vastly increases the chances of the ball going in the intended target line. A good drill to practise this is to hit half shots with a mid iron, focusing on keeping the left arm straight through-out the entire half swing.

Hopefully you will have found the above golf swing tips helpful, as always with golf – the more you practise the better player you will become…
